It seems as though it is much easier to get discouraged in the midst of circumstances than it is to stay encouraged in spite of them. Yet, our circumstances are not supposed to control us or even dictate our value or worth. This is something I have always struggled with and it seems as though this week has been particularly challenging in that area. What do we do with our discouragement? How do we conquer our circumstances? What is a good theology of discouragement (it seems that it would be different than a theology of suffering)?

Today starts lent, an often deep and painful journey to the cross. It is always a deeply spiritual time for me. This year, I will add my devotional and focus on getting back into a devotional and exercise routine. I am going to try to give up on yelling or getting mad—because it is good for the soul.
