“Our job in this lifetime is not to shape ourselves into some ideal we imagine we ought to be, but to find out who we already are and become it.” (Pressfield)

There are so many expectations that we face and feel a need to live up to. We often fall victim to comparison as we look at the lives of others. We have goals and desires we want to meet and things about ourselves we do not like. We all struggle with a sense of ‘not measuring up.’

With God it is different; we have already been created in the image of the perfect creator. We are in fact good. While we are good, we are certainly not perfect and God does call us to perfect which can only be achieved by His work. The good news is that God does not have some ideal of who we should be, rather we simply have to become all that He has created us to be. In some ways, it feels easier to me to try and become something I or others think I should be than it is to become who I already am in Christ. This quote above says it best and for me the journey of seeking to be more of who God has created me to be is a joyous one. It is not without pain or challenge, but it is a great joy for me to seek to be who I really am deep down. We are not subject to this world, but to the creator. The more I see who God created me to be, the more I love myself, God, and others.

May this joyous journey continue.
