Insecurity

We all have our strengths and our weaknesses. We all also have things that we struggle with, many of which will never go away, yet we can manage these struggles and grow in them. We can find a way to push past them and address them when the come. One of my greatest challenges & weaknesses is insecurity. Throughout my life, insecurity has plagued me. As I have grown, matured and sought support in this struggle, I have learned to better manage it. It has not gone away, but when it comes, I am more aware of it and most times am able to recognize, name and address it. Below are some key questions I try to ask myself when I am struggling with insecurity.

  1. What is the evidence?
  2. Is there an alternative explanation?
  3. What is the worse that could happen? Could I live through it? What is the best that could happen? What is the most realistic outcome?
  4. What might God want to do in this situation? Where is God currently present? What are some of the possibilities for redemption?
  5. What’s the effect of my believing the automatic thought? What could be the effect of changing my thinking?
  6. How can God impact or change this situation?
  7. What should I do about it?
  8. What is God calling me to?
  9. What would I tell someone else if they were in the same situation?
  10. Where is God right now?

I hope this helps you as you wrestle with uncertainty or insecurity.
